A service to commemorate the Battle of Passchendaele was held at the Church of St Nicholas in Castro, Carisbrooke Castle – “The Island’s First World War Memorial” – on Thursday 12th October 2017.
The Battle of Passchendaele, otherwise known as the Third Battle of Ypres took place on the Western Front from July to November 2017. The battle lasted 105 days and around a third of a million British and Allied soldiers were killed or wounded in some of the most horrific trench warfare.

The annual Lord-Lieutenant’s Award ceremony took place on Wednesday 4th October 2017 at the Royal Yacht Squadron.
