Sandown Celebrates VE 80

On Sunday 4th May 2025, the Lord-Lieutenant attended a memorial service celebrating the end of the second world war. The Service, held at Christ Church in Sandown was also attended by The Bishop of Portsmouth, the High Sheriff, Joe Robinson MP,  Richard Quigley MP, the Chair , Vice Chair and Councillors  of the Isle of Wight Council.

Guest of honour was one hundred year old Royal Navy Veteran Mr Alec Penstone.

King’s Coronation Medals presented to Yarmouth RNLI

 

On Thursday 17th April, the Lord-Lieutenant visited Yarmouth RNLI to present King’s Coronation medals to volunteers.  The commemorative medal marks the  Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.  It is awarded to serving frontline members of the police, fire, emergency services, prison services and armed forces that have completed 5 full calendar years of service.

The Lord-Lieutenant visits the Wight Aviation Museum

On Tuesday 15th April, the Lord-Lieutenant and her husband attended the official open day of  the 2025 season for the Wight Aviation Museum.

Situated at Sandown Airport, Mr William T Cooper – Director and Trustee of the Wight Aviation Museum greeted Mr & Mrs Sheldon who gave them a tour of the museum.

 

High Sheriff’s Swearing-In Ceremony 2025

On Monday 7th April, on behalf of HM Lord-Lieutenant, HM Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Brigadier Maurice Sheen CBE QVRM TD DL attended the Swearing-In ceremony of the new High Sheriff for the Isle of Wight.

Jacqueline Gazzard will be in post for a year and during that time will be working to support and promote opportunities for young Islanders, building chances for them to achieve their ambitions.
