Vice Lord-Lieutenant attends combined Commemoration event in Newport

On Sunday 2nd October 2022, Vice Lord-Lieutenant Brigadier Maurice Sheen CBE QVRM TD DL, on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant, attended a 100th Anniversary Commemoration of the War Memorial in St Thomas’ Square, combined with the 100th Anniversary of Cowes Sea Cadets and 60th Anniversary of Ryde Sea Cadets.

Sandown Green Town Volunteers receive Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

On Wednesday 28th September, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon, presented the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to Sandown Green Town Volunteers – the charity which exists to enhance the town and promote a sense of wellbeing.

This is the highest award a voluntary organisation can receive in the UK and is the organisational equivalent of an MBE.

Pan Together receives Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

On Wednesday 28th September 2022, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon, presented the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to Pan Together – the charity which exists to support and provide a community hub for the residents of East Newport.
This is the highest award a voluntary organisation can receive in the UK and is the organisational equivalent of an MBE.

Commemoration Service Marking the Death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

A special commemoration service marking the death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, took place at the Minster on Sunday 18th September 2022.

The King’s representative, the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon attended, along with dignitaries from across the Island and members of the public.

The Service was led by the acting Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight, the Rev Allie Kerr and featured the choirs of the parish of Newport and Carisbrooke and the Isle of Wight Cantata Choir.

Proclamation on the Isle of Wight

The High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Kay Marriott, and His Majesty’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Brigadier Maurice Sheen, announced the accession to the throne of the new monarch, on Sunday 11th September 2022 at St Thomas’ Square, Newport.

His Majesty King Charles III was publicly proclaimed as the new sovereign at an historic ceremony at St James’ Palace in London on Saturday 10th September 2022.

Solent Platinum Jubilee Celebration August 2022

On Saturday 6th August 2022, HRH The Princess Royal and Sir Tim Laurence visited the Island for the Solent Platinum Jubilee Celebration.  A spectacular showcase of more than 400 boats took place in the Solent in recognition of the support the Royal Family has given to the sailing community over the last 70 years.

Newport Rowing Club Annual Regatta

On Saturday 30th July 2022, The Lord-Lieutenant was welcomed by the President of Newport Rowing Club, Mr Ian Lallow and presented prizes to the winners of the Newport Coastal Four’s Regatta.

HRH The Princess Royal, July 2022

 

On Tuesday 26th July 2022, HRH The Princess Royal visited Cheetah Marine in Ventnor.  During her visit she went on board the catamaran “Wetwheels Edinburgh” designed for people with disabilities.  She also had the opportunity to meet the staff and hear about the other boats in production.

HRH The Princess Royal then went on to Mountbatten Hospice where she met patients, staff, volunteers and visitors.  During her tour of Mountbatten, which included the John Cheverton Centre, she was updated on the charity’s work.  Among the groups she met were those from the Knit and Natter and the singing group.  She also met the Kissypuppy team to talk about end-of-life services for children on the Island.

Finally at UKSA in Cowes, Princess Anne officially opened its new Sea Change 136-bed accommodation centre, enabling the charity to greet an additional 3,000 young people each year.

As patron of the maritime training provider, Her Royal Highness spent the afternoon taking a tour of the new facility, unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion and had the opportunity to meet donors.
