Spinlock Receives King’s Award for INNOVATION

Well known Cowes based marine manufacturer Spinlock Ltd, is delighted to announce they are first recipients of the prestigious King’s Award for Innovation. This fantastic recognition is assigned to their resourceful product the ALTO, a waist-worn lifesaving device, primarily targeted at those in the fishing and watersports sectors.

As previous proud recipients of a Queen’s Award for Innovation, plus an Export Award, Spinlock are abundantly aware of the influence and respect that accompanies this accolade. With Her Late Majesty The Queen leaving an enduring legacy of support for exceptional Innovation and Entrepreneurship, it is an honour that His Majesty The King has given his name to these prestigious awards to continue the recognition of enterprising achievements nationwide. Spinlock is the only Island company in 2023 to win a King’s Award and one of 47 Nationally.

The Duchess of Gloucester visits the Island

On Wednesday 19th April 2023, the  Duchess of Gloucester visited the Isle of Wight.   The Isle of Wight’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Susan Sheldon greeted Her Royal Highness at the West Wight Dementia Friendly choir.  Here, she spent time with members of the choir,  and listening to the choir sing.

The Duchess then went on to the newly built Isle of Wight NHS Trust Ambulance Station, taking a guided tour of the new facility, meeting the operational staff members and teams behind the running of the service, and officially opening the new facility.

The Duchess then visited Home-Start IOW, a voluntary organisation that offers support to parents and carers with at least one child under five to help them with the challenges of family life.

Following her visit to Home-Start IOW, the Duchess headed over to the Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club  to  show her support to the Island Games team who are travelling to compete in Guernsey later on in the year.  She gave thanks on behalf of the Island Game Association by presenting locally made pieces of glass, to the two main sponsors who have provided support to the team over many years.  ICR TOUCH who have sponsored the Kits and Red Funnel who have sponsored the team travel.

High Sheriff’s Declaration 2023

 

On Monday 3rd April, The Lord-Lieutenant and Mr Sheldon attended the  High Sheriff’s Declaration at Barton Manor, along with the Vice Lord-Lieutenant and many of the Deputy Lieutenants.

The Chair of the Bench, Keith Jones officiated.  The new High Sheriff, Mrs Dawn Haig-Thomas read her Declaration of Office and April Newton was sworn in as the Under Sheriff.

Mrs Haig Thomas revealed her theme for the year to be Literacy.

Goddards Brewery celebrates 30 year anniversary

On Wednesday 29th March the Lord-Lieutenant visited Goddards Brewery as they celebrate their 30th anniversary this year.

The Lord-Lieutenant and Mr  Sheldon arrived and were welcomed by Anthony Goddard and Managing Director, Bob Simpson.   The head brewer, Nigel Eldridge showed Mr & Mrs Sheldon around the brewery process in their new building at Hale Common.  They were shown around the visitor areas before arriving upstairs where the brewing area below can observed from the bar area.

Shipwreck Centre and Maritime Museum Public Open Day

On Saturday 11th February, Mrs Sheldon attended the Shipwreck Centre and Maritime Museum.  Mrs Sheldon was shown around the Archaeology element of the shipwreck museum by Gary Momber, the Maritime Archaeology Trust Director and Martin Woodward showed her around the maritime museum area.

Dedication and Consecration of a Remembrance Bench

On Thursday 2nd February 2023, HM Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Susie Sheldon and Vice Lord-Lieutenant Brigadier (Retd) Maurice Sheen CBE, QVRM, TD, DL attended a Dedication and Consecration of a remembrance bench at St Mary’s Church, Brighstone which was organised by RBL Brighstone.

The Bench commemorates the fallen during the First World War and to remember Warrior,  The War Horse, and Nursing Sister Edith Elisabeth Appleton MBE, who also lived in Brighstone.

1st Anniversary of The Veterans Lounge in Ryde

On Monday 19th December 2022, Mrs Susie Sheldon attended the 1st anniversary of The Veterans Lounge in Ryde High Street.  The premises provide support to the many veterans on the Island.  Mrs Sheldon was accompanied by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant Brigadier (Ret.) Maurice Sheen CBE QVRM TD DL.
